Biography

Blessed Primitivo Sandín Miñambres, also known as Blessed Primitivo, was an Augustinian priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on January 25, 1893, in Santibáñez de Tera, Zamora, Spain.

Primitivo Sandín Miñambres devoted his life to serving God and entered the religious order of the Augustinians. After completing his studies and being ordained as a priest, he faithfully carried out his ministry in various parishes and communities.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, Primitivo remained committed to his faith, providing spiritual guidance and support to those who sought solace amidst the chaos. However, his unwavering dedication to his beliefs eventually became a threat to the anti-Catholic factions that emerged during the conflict.

On July 28, 1936, in Vallecas, a district of Madrid, Primitivo Sandín Miñambres was arrested due to his religious affiliation and was subjected to persecution for his faith. He endured imprisonment and suffering, remaining steadfast in his commitment to Christ and his Church.

Primitivo's unwavering faith and his refusal to renounce his religious principles witnessed his martyrdom. On July 28, 1936, he was killed, becoming one of the many victims of the Spanish Civil War, which took a heavy toll on the Catholic Church and its followers.

The memory and sacrifice of Blessed Primitivo Sandín Miñambres were recognized and venerated by the Catholic Church. On June 1, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, acknowledging Primitivo's fidelity to his faith and his martyrdom for the sake of Christ.
