Biography

Blessed Richard Martin, a Shropshire gentleman, was born in Shropshire, England, and was educated at Broadgates Hall, Oxford. While little is known about his early life, it is evident that his staunch Catholic faith played a significant role in shaping his destiny.

During the turbulent times of the English Reformation, when practicing Catholicism was illegal and priests were severely persecuted, Blessed Richard Martin fearlessly defied the authorities by providing shelter and support to priests. Recognized for his courageous acts, he became an ardent defender of the Catholic Church and its priests.

For his unwavering commitment to the faith, Richard was ultimately condemned to death. On 30 August 1588, he met his martyrdom at Tyburn, London, where he was hanged, drawn, and quartered.
