Biography

Blessed Salvador Estrugo Salves, also known as Salvador Estrugo, was a Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Valencia, Spain. He was born on October 12, 1862, in Alzira, Valencia, Spain. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to serving the Church and the people of his community.

Salvador Estrugo's early years were marked by a deep sense of faith and a calling to the priesthood. He pursued his studies in theology, eventually becoming ordained as a priest. Throughout his ministry, he exemplified a strong commitment to his pastoral duties and showed great compassion towards the people he served.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Salvador's unwavering faith and dedication to his calling led him to continue carrying out his priestly responsibilities despite the dangerous circumstances. He fearlessly provided spiritual guidance and support to those affected by the conflict, offering solace and hope during times of great uncertainty.

Unfortunately, Salvador's courageous acts of ministry during the Spanish Civil War eventually led to his martyrdom. On August 10, 1936, in Alberic, Valencia, he was executed for his religious beliefs. He became one of the many victims of religious persecution that occurred during that period.

The life and martyrdom of Salvador Estrugo Salves did not go unnoticed. Recognizing his unwavering faith and the sacrifice he made for the Church, Pope John Paul II decreed him venerable on December 18, 2000. This declaration acknowledged Salvador's life of holiness and his courageous witness to the Gospel.

On March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II further honored Salvador by beatifying him. This beatification ceremony served as a public recognition of Salvador Estrugo's martyrdom, declaring him Blessed Salvador Estrugo Salves.

Today, Blessed Salvador Estrugo Salves is remembered as a faithful and dedicated priest who exemplified true pastoral care and selflessness in the face of adversity. His life stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who remain steadfast in their faith, even in the most challenging times.
