Blessed Suzanneagathe Deloye

Blessed Suzanne-Agathe Deloye, also known as Maria Rosa de Loye, Marie Rose Deloye, Mary Rose de Loye, and Susanna-Agatha de Loye, was born on February 4, 1741, in Sérignan, Vaucluse, France. She later became a Benedictine nun at the convent of Caderousse in 1762, taking the name Mary Rose.

During the turbulent times of the French Revolution, many religious institutions and their occupants faced persecution. Sister Mary Rose was no exception. She was expelled from the convent and subsequently imprisoned due to her steadfast devotion to her faith. As the revolutionaries sought to eradicate any trace of Catholicism, Sister Mary Rose was unjustly accused and sentenced to death.

On July 6, 1794, in Orange, Vaucluse, France, Sister Mary Rose met her tragic fate as she was executed by the guillotine. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs and refusal to renounce her faith in the face of adversity made her a martyr and an inspiration to many.

Blessed Suzanne-Agathe Deloye was recognized for her martyrdom on March 19, 1925, by Pope Pius XI, who issued a decree acknowledging her heroic death in defense of her Catholic faith. She was beatified on May 10, 1925, by the same pope.

Remembered for her courage, faith, and resilience, Blessed Suzanne-Agathe Deloye holds a special place among the Martyrs of Orange. Her feast day is celebrated on July 6, and she is also honored on July 9 as one of the martyrs from Orange.
