Biography
Blessed Tomàs Planas Aguilera, a devoted member of the Claretian Order, dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church. Professing his vows as a Claretian on 31 August 1926, he embraced the charism of St. Anthony Mary Claret, committing himself to evangelization and pastoral care. His priestly vocation was formally realized when he was ordained on 26 May 1934, marking the beginning of his active ministry within the Church.
His life and witness were profoundly shaped by the turbulent context of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), a period marked by intense persecution of Catholics. Blessed Tomàs Planas Aguilera, steadfast in his faith and priestly duties, became a victim of this persecution. He was martyred for his Catholic faith during the conflict, offering his life as a testament to his unwavering commitment to Christ and His Church.
Though his earthly life was cut short, his legacy endures as a powerful example of courage and fidelity in the face of violent opposition. His martyrdom, recognized by the Church, stands as a beacon of hope and a call to steadfast witness for the faithful, particularly within the Claretian family and the broader Catholic community in Spain. His feast day is commemorated on the anniversary of his death, a day of prayer and reflection on the cost of discipleship.
