Biography

Blessed Vicente Sicluna Hernández was a priest in the archdiocese of Valencia, Spain, who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 31 October 1859 in Valencia, Spain, and dedicated his life to the service of God and his community.

As a priest, Blessed Vicente Sicluna was known for his kindness, compassion, and deep love for his parishioners. He tirelessly worked to spread the teachings of the Catholic faith, providing spiritual guidance and support to those in need. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he was highly revered by the people he served.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Vicente Sicluna faced persecution and violence due to his religious beliefs. On 22 September 1936, he was martyred in Bolbaite, Valencia, Spain. His courageous refusal to renounce his faith and his determination to stand up for Catholicism in the face of oppression made him a martyr for the Church.

Blessed Vicente Sicluna's life and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. On 18 December 2000, Pope John Paul II recognized his martyrdom with a decree, marking him as a source of inspiration and veneration. Then, on 11 March 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed."
