Biografía
Blessed Czeslaw Jozwiak, born on 7 September 1919 in Lazyn, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland, was the son of a police officer in the archdiocese of Poznan. He received his education from the Salesians and became an active member of the Salesian youth oratory.
In 1939, when the Nazis invaded Poland, Czeslaw was forced to leave school and began working in a cosmetics shop. Despite the difficulties and dangers presented by the war, Czeslaw continued to live his faith with great dedication. He remained committed to his religious duties and actively participated in the underground Church, which was at great risk under the Nazi regime.
However, Czeslaw's unwavering devotion to his faith and his involvement in the underground Church ultimately led to his arrest by the Nazis. He was captured and imprisoned in Dresden, Germany.
On 24 August 1942, at the young age of 22, Czeslaw Jozwiak was martyred and executed by guillotine. His courageous witness to the Catholic faith and his refusal to renounce his beliefs even in the face of death made him a true martyr and an inspiration to many.
Blessed Czeslaw Jozwiak's feast days are celebrated on 24 August and as one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II, his feast day is also recognized on 12 June. In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope John Paul II issued a decree of martyrdom and declared him venerable on 26 March 1999. Later on 13 June 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified Czeslaw Jozwiak in Warsaw, Poland, acknowledging his holiness and the sacrifices he made for his faith.
Blessed Czeslaw Jozwiak serves as a reminder of the courage and strength that individuals can exhibit in the face of persecution and adversity. His life continues to inspire and serve as a shining example of faith, dedication, and martyrdom for Catholics around the world.
