He was born on 10 February 1879 in the town of Los Balbases in Burgos, Spain. From an early age, he exhibited a strong devotion to his faith and a desire to serve God.

Ireneo Rodríguez González entered the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, and was ordained as a priest. He dedicated his life to the service of the poor and the marginalized, following in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Vincentian order.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, a conflict marked by religious persecution, Father Ireneo became a target due to his unwavering commitment to his faith and his active involvement in the Catholic Church. On 6 December 1936, in Guadalajara, Spain, he was arrested by anti-Catholic forces and met a martyr's death.

His willingness to sacrifice his life for the sake of his faith and his dedication to helping others made him a revered figure among the faithful. The Catholic Church recognized his martyrdom, leading to his veneration by the faithful.

On 5 July 2013, Pope Francis declared Blessed Ireneo Rodríguez González a martyr, affirming his heroic witness to the Christian faith. This declaration was followed by his beatification on 13 October 2013, when Pope Francis officially recognized him as Blessed.
