Beato Juan Bover Teixidor

Blessed Joan Bover Teixidor, also known as Modest of Mieres, was a Franciscan Capuchin who dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow human beings. He was born on 8 June 1876 in Mieres, Girona, Spain.

Joan Bover Teixidor joined the Capuchin Order and made his profession on 28 June 1902. Soon after, on 20 July 1902, he was ordained as a priest, receiving the sacrament of Holy Orders. Throughout his life, he exhibited a deep commitment to his faith and a strong desire to bring people closer to God.

Tragically, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Joan Bover Teixidor was martyred by Marxists on 28 July 1936 in SarriÖ, Barcelona, Spain. His unwavering devotion to his religious beliefs led to his persecution and untimely death at the hands of those who opposed his faith.

In recognition of his martyrdom and his dedication to the service of God, Pope Francis declared him venerable on 5 June 2015. This decree acknowledged his heroic virtues and acknowledged his sacrifice for his faith. Later that same year, on 21 November, Pope Francis beatified Blessed Joan Bover Teixidor in a solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of Santa Creu i Santa EulÖlia in Barcelona, Spain. Cardinal Angelo Amato presided over the beatification ceremony.
