Biografía

Blessed Joan Costa Canal, also known as Father Odiló Maria, was a Spanish priest and member of the Benedictine Subiaco Congregation. He was born on December 13, 1905, in Vic, Barcelona, Spain.

Joan Costa Canal dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church. He joined the Benedictine Subiaco Congregation, an order of monks known for their commitment to monastic life and spiritual disciplines. As a member of this congregation, he embraced a life of prayer, study, and community living.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Joan Costa Canal's faith and commitment to his vocation were put to the ultimate test. Despite the dangers and persecution faced by clergy members during this time, he fearlessly continued to minister to the spiritual needs of his parishioners.

Tragically, on July 28, 1936, in Montcada, Barcelona, Joan Costa Canal was martyred for his unwavering faith. His courageous witness to his beliefs and refusal to renounce his Catholicism, even in the face of imminent death, earned him the title of martyr.

Following his martyrdom, Joan Costa Canal was laid to rest in the Cripta de los Monjes Mártires at the Montserrat Basilica in Barcelona. His tomb became a place of pilgrimage for many faithful seeking solace and inspiration from his selfless sacrifice.
