Biografía

Blessed José Valencia Janices, also known as Benigno José, was a devout Monk and a dedicated member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 16 November 1906 in Artajona, Navarra, Spain, and his life of piety and service to God began at a young age.

José entered the Marist Brothers of the Schools and embraced the teachings of their founder, St. Marcellin Champagnat. As a member of the religious order, he dedicated himself to the education and spiritual formation of young people, particularly in the field of Christian education.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution ran rampant, José courageously continued his mission despite the risks involved. Sadly, his unwavering faith and commitment to his vocation would ultimately lead to his martyrdom.

On 11 August 1936, in Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, Spain, José Valencia Janices met his untimely death. Along with many other religious figures and faithful Catholics, he was executed for his refusal to renounce his faith and abandon his religious calling.

In recognition of his steadfast devotion, sacrifice, and love for God, José was venerated by Pope Francis on 3 June 2013. The Pope officially proclaimed him blessed, bestowing upon him the title of Blessed José Valencia Janices, during a beatification ceremony held on 13 October 2013.

Blessed José Valencia Janices is honored and remembered for his unwavering commitment to Christ, even in the face of persecution and martyrdom. His life serves as a testament to the power of faith and the courage to stand firm in one's beliefs, inspiring all who hear his story to remain steadfast in their own spiritual journeys.
