Biografía

Blessed Juan Luis Hernández Medina was a devout Catholic cleric and member of the Salesians of Don Bosco. He was born on 19 December 1912 in Cerralbo, Salamanca, Spain. From a young age, Juan Luis demonstrated a deep faith and a strong calling to serve God.

Joining the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order dedicated to the education and spiritual growth of young people, Juan Luis dedicated himself to his studies and formation. He showed great enthusiasm for the teachings of St. John Bosco, the founder of the Salesians, who emphasized love and care for the youth.

In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant in Spain. Juan Luis, along with many other Catholic clergy, was targeted for his faith. Despite the impending dangers, he fearlessly continued his work, providing spiritual guidance, support, and education to the young people in his care.

On 28 July 1936, while serving in Ronda, Málaga, Spain, Juan Luis Hernández Medina was martyred for his unwavering faith and commitment to his vocation. He bravely faced persecution and ultimately sacrificed his life, refusing to renounce his Catholic beliefs.

His martyrdom did not go unnoticed, as the faithful recognized the profound sacrifice he made for his faith. The cause for Juan Luis' beatification began, and on 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable, acknowledging his martyrdom. On 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI further honored him by beatifying him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed."

Blessed Juan Luis Hernández Medina serves as an inspiring example of fidelity to one's faith and dedication to the service of others, particularly the young. His memory lives on as a reminder of the courage and selflessness exhibited by those who stand firm in their beliefs, even in the face of persecution. The feast day of Blessed Juan Luis Hernández Medina is celebrated on 28 July each year, commemorating his martyrdom and honoring his blessed life.
