Biografía

Blessed Julián Lisbona Royo, also known as Timoteo José, was a Spanish monk and member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on October 23, 1891, in Torre de las Arcas, Teruel, Spain. As a Marist Brother, Julián dedicated his life to the service of God and the education of young people.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Julián Lisbona Royo displayed unwavering faith and courage. Despite the risks posed by the political climate, he continued his work as an educator, bringing hope and spiritual guidance to those in need.

On August 11, 1936, near Saganta, Huesca, Spain, Brother Julián Lisbona Royo was martyred for his faith. He endured persecution and ultimately lost his life because of his refusal to renounce his religious beliefs. His martyrdom serves as a testament to his deep dedication to his Christian beliefs and his commitment to the principles and values of the Marist Brothers.

Recognizing his exemplary life and ultimate sacrifice, Pope Francis issued a decree of martyrdom on June 3, 2013, thereby establishing the official veneration of Blessed Julián Lisbona Royo. Later, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed."

The feast day of Blessed Julián Lisbona Royo is celebrated on August 11th each year. This date provides an opportunity for the faithful to remember his life, his selfless service to God and others, and to seek his intercession as a holy martyr.
