Biografía

Blessed Luis Gómez De Pablo, also known as Félix of the Virgin of Carmel, was a Discalced Carmelite brother who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He is remembered for his unwavering faith and commitment to his religious calling, even in the face of persecution and violence.

Born on 9th January 1912 in Valladolid, Spain, Luis Gómez De Pablo grew up in a devout Catholic family. He felt a deep calling to the religious life from a young age and entered the Discalced Carmelite community as a brother. Known for his diligence and dedication, he was admired by his fellow religious and quickly became a source of inspiration within the community.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, the Catholic Church and religious orders were targeted by anti-Catholic forces. Despite the danger and risks involved, Luis remained steadfast in his devotion to God and the teachings of the Church. He courageously continued to practice his faith, refusing to renounce his religious vows even in the face of severe persecution.

Tragically, on 31st July 1936, Luis Gómez De Pablo was martyred for his faith. He was brutally executed in ‚ÄúLos Cobertizos,‚Äù Toledo, Spain, as a result of his refusal to abandon his religious calling. His strong faith and refusal to compromise his beliefs even under extreme circumstances truly exemplified his devotion to God and the Carmelite order.

The heroic virtues and martyrdom of Luis Gómez De Pablo were recognized by the Catholic Church, and on 28th April 2006, Pope Benedict XVI decreed his martyrdom. This decree allowed for his beatification, which took place on 28th October 2007, also by Pope Benedict XVI.

Blessed Luis Gómez De Pablo remains a symbol of faith and courage, serving as an inspiration to all those who face persecution and adversity for their beliefs. His life is a testament to the strength of one's conviction and the willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of God and the Church. As a martyr of the Spanish Civil War, he is honored on his feast day, which is celebrated on 31st July.
