Beato Manuel Ferrer Jordá

Blessed Manuel Ferrer Jordá, also known as Father Benito María of Burriana, was a Catholic priest and member of the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers of Our Lady of Sorrows. He was born on November 26, 1872, in Burriana, Castellón, Spain.

Father Benito María dedicated his life to the service of God and his fellow human beings. He joined the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers, a religious order known for its commitment to poverty, humility, and prayer. As a member of this order, he embraced a life of simplicity and sacrifice.

During the turbulent Spanish Civil War, Father Benito María became a target of persecution due to his religious beliefs. He remained steadfast in his faith and continued to offer spiritual guidance and solace to the suffering despite the increasing danger.

Tragically, on September 16, 1936, Father Benito María was martyred in Turís, Valencia, Spain, for his unwavering commitment to his priesthood and the Catholic faith. He is remembered for his courage, selflessness, and dedication to the service of others.

Recognizing the sanctity and martyrdom of Father Benito María, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable on December 18, 2000. The Pope further beatified him on March 11, 2001, acknowledging his sacrifice and steadfastness in the face of persecution.
