Biografía

Blessed Manuel Llop Plana, also known as Adrián, was a devout Catholic Monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 1 January 1896 in La Mata de Morella, a small town in the region of Castellón, Spain. From a young age, Manuel showed a deep interest in religious life and a strong desire to serve God.

At the age of 16, Manuel entered the Novitiate of the Marist Brothers in Culla, where he dedicated himself to the pursuit of holiness and the education of young people. He embraced the Marist charism, which emphasized educating children through love and dedication, and he became known for his kindness, patience, and deep faith.

Manuel's vocation as a teacher took him to various Marist schools in Spain, where he left a lasting impact on his students. He was highly regarded for his dedication to their spiritual and intellectual growth, as well as for his ability to inspire them to embrace their faith.

However, during a very turbulent time in Spanish history, the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936. This conflict heavily affected the Catholic Church, as religious persecution grew rampant. Manuel, along with many other priests, monks, and religious, became targeted for adhering to their faith.

On 11 August 1936, Manuel was martyred in Paracuellos de Jarama, a town in the province of Madrid, Spain. He valiantly embraced his martyrdom, giving witness to his unyielding faith in the face of persecution. His sacrifice was a testament to his profound love for God and his commitment to the service of others.

In recognition of his martyrdom, Manuel Llop Plana was venerated by Pope Francis, who issued a decree of martyrology on 3 June 2013. Following this recognition, he was beatified by Pope Francis on 13 October 2013, elevating him to the status of Blessed within the Catholic Church.

Blessed Manuel Llop Plana continues to be a source of inspiration for all, exemplifying the virtues of faith, dedication, and courage. His life reminds us of the importance of upholding our beliefs even in the face of adversity and persecution. As we honor his memory on his feast day, 11 August, we ask for his intercession and pray that his example may continue to inspire us to live our faith with conviction and selflessness.
