Biografía

Blessed Narcis Basté Y Basté, also known as Father Narcis Basté, was born on 16 December 1866 in Sant Andreu de Palomar, Barcelona, Spain. He dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church, ultimately joining the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1890.

After his ordination as a priest, Father Narcis Basté became deeply involved in the Foundation for Youth Workers in Valencia, Spain. He served as the director of this organization, which aimed to support and guide young people in their personal and spiritual development. Father Narcis Basté was known for his compassionate nature and his commitment to helping young individuals find their purpose and navigate the challenges of life.

Sadly, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Narcis Basté was caught in the violent upheaval that engulfed the country. On 15 October 1936, he was martyred for his unwavering faith and dedication to the Church. The place of his martyrdom was the Picadero de Paterna, in the region of Valencia, Spain.

Blessed Narcis Basté Y Basté was recognized for his martyrdom and the sacrifice he made for his faith. On 20 December 1999, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable, acknowledging his exceptional virtue and holiness. Later, on 11 March 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified him, granting him the title of blessed. The beatification ceremony was a profound recognition of Father Narcis Basté's selfless martyrdom and his unwavering commitment to the gospel of Christ.
