Saint Adjutor

Saint Adjutor, born on July 24, 1073, in Vernon, France, was a knight who participated in the First Crusade and later became a hermit at the Abbey of Trion. Tradition holds that during his time in the Crusades, he was captured by Muslims and attempted to force him to abandon his faith. According to legend, Adjutor escaped persecution by swimming back to France. He entered the Abbey of Trion as a recluse until his death on April 30, 1131. Later legends state that angels freed him from his captors, and he calmed a whirlpool by throwing holy water and chains into it and signing the cross. Saint Adjutor is venerated for his intercession in matters related to swimmers, boaters, and drowning victims, as well as being the patron saint of Vernon, France.
