Biography
Augustin Schoeffler was born on November 22, 1822, and died on May 1, 1851. He was a priest from Lorraine who joined the Paris Foreign Missions Society and served as a missionary in Indochina. Schoeffler is one of two French missionaries killed between 1847 and 1851 during his service in northern Vietnam. Pope John Paul II canonized him on June 19, 1988, making him a saint in the Catholic Church. He is venerated as one of the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs on November 24, with his feast day celebrated on May 1 (May 2 locally in France).
