Biography
The spiritual landscape of the twelfth century was transformed by the Cistercian order, a movement dedicated to a rigorous return to the Rule of Saint Benedict. At the heart of this renewal stood Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, whose influence radiated across Europe. Among the many souls drawn to this rigorous path of prayer and labor was a monk named Balduino, whose life became inextricably linked to the spread of the Cistercian spirit into Italy. He is remembered not for a specific chronicle of miracles, but for the foundational work he undertook as a trusted disciple.
