Saint Francesco De Geronimo

Francesco de Geronimo, also known as Francis Jerome (17 December 1642 - 11 May 1716), was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member of the Jesuits. Born in Naples, he dedicated himself to pastoral work across the city, both in large urban areas and rural regions. His preaching style was characterized by its brevity and clarity, making it accessible to people from all social backgrounds. Despite his desire to serve missions in the Far East, he was not allowed to join Jesuit missions in Japan or India. Instead, he continued his work as a preacher and educator, leaving behind a legacy that included the composition of 'Diu vi Salvi Regina,' which later became the national anthem of independent Corsica in 1735. His life was marked by dedication and devotion to spreading the Word of God, even when faced with personal disappointments.
