Saint Ireneus

In the shadow of imperial persecution, where the very existence of the Christian faith was threatened by state-sanctioned violence, the Church often found its most profound strength in the witness of its shepherds. It was within this crucible of trial that a bishop of Syrmia stood firm, his name becoming synonymous with courage in the Roman province of Pannonia.
