Saint Justin

Saint Justin Martyr (c. 90–100 AD – 165 AD) was an early Christian apologist and philosopher, known for his philosophical approach to Christianity. Born around 90-100 AD, he is also referred to as Justin the Philosopher due to his background in philosophy. His most well-known work, 'The First Apology,' defends the moral integrity of the Christian life and provides arguments to convince Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius to cease persecution of Christians. In this text, Justin argues that historical manifestations of the Logos predated Christ's incarnation, and suggests that many Greek philosophers, including Socrates and Plato, were unknowing Christians.

Justin Martyr was martyred during the reign of Marcus Aurelius around 165 AD, along with some of his students. His martyrdom is commemorated by several Christian denominations, including the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Churches, Lutheran Churches, and Anglicanism. Justin's legacy as a defender of Christianity through philosophical discourse continues to be celebrated.
