Biography
Longinus (Greek: Λογγίνος) is an unnamed Roman soldier who, according to mediaeval and some modern Christian traditions, pierced the side of Jesus with a lance during the Crucifixion as described in the Gospel of John. His name first appeared in the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus. Over time, he was identified as one of the centurions present at the Crucifixion, who declared that Jesus was the Son of God....
