Saint Meletius

Meletius of Antioch (Greek: Μελέτιος, Meletios) was a Christian patriarch of Antioch from 360 until his death in 381. He faced significant opposition and was exiled multiple times under Arian emperors, including during the periods 361–362, 365–366, and 371–378. Despite these challenges, he played a crucial role by presiding over the First Council of Constantinople in 381. His theological position is subject to debate; while some view him as a proponent of Arianism due to his exile under Arian emperors, others see him as opposed to the Homoousianism favored by Eustathius of Antioch and Saint Athanasius of Alexandria. Meletius was known for his ascetic lifestyle despite being wealthy. He is venerated as a saint and confessor in the Roman Catholic, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Orthodox churches.
