Biography
Nicolò Politi, born on August 3, 1117, to noble parents in Italy, was destined for a life of nobility and privilege. However, at the age of seventeen, he fled his arranged marriage and joined the Basilians as a monk. For several decades, he lived a reclusive existence in a mountain cave, returning each weekend to the Basilian convent for the sacraments before retreating back into solitude. Known from childhood for performing miracles, Politi was venerated after his death on August 17, 1167. He was canonized as a saint on June 7, 1507, despite his life of hermitage and seclusion.
