Saint Pimenio

Pimenio, or Pymenius, was a Bishop of Assidonia (Medina Sidonia) and played an active role in several councils during his tenure. He participated in the Fourth Council of Toledo in AD 633 and the sixth council in 638, with the priest Ubiliensio representing him at the seventh council in 646. Pimenio was known for his dedication to the Church and his efforts to renew his diocese, which lasted at least 18 years from 629 until after 646. He devoted several churches, including those in Medina Sidonia (year 630), Vejer de la Frontera (year 644), Salpensa near Utrera (648), and Alcalá de los Gazules (662). He was buried in a monastery in the village of Aquis, where King Wamba established the bishopric of aquense-eborense in 681. Pimenio's legacy is honored through his veneration and the establishment of a diocese in his memory.
