Biography
Theophilus of Corte, born Biagio Arrighi on 30 October 1676 in Corsica, Italy, was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member from the Order of Friars Minor. Known for his preaching and evangelization efforts, he played a significant role in establishing Franciscan houses in northern Italian cities and throughout Corsica. Theophilus was celebrated for his cheerful demeanor and his willingness to assist others, alongside his tireless dedication to silence and solitude, which he encouraged among his fellow friars as a means of better communing with God. He died on 17 June 1740 in Italy. Beatified in 1896 and canonized as a saint on 29 June 1930, Theophilus is venerated for his exemplary life of service and devotion.
