Biography
Tiburzio Vergelli (1551-1609) was an Italian sculptor and founder, born in Camerino, Italy. Highly skilled as a metal smelter, he trained under Antonio Calcagni and Girolamo Lombardo in Recanati. His first notable work is the statue of Pope Sixtus V, which Vergelli completed around 1587 for his hometown Camerino. This work was done concurrently with Calcagni's similar statue for Loreto, Marche, leading to a professional rivalry between them. Vergelli and Sebastian Sebastiani along with Giovan Battista Vitali collaborated on the baptismal font between 1600 and 1608. He passed away in Recanati in 1609.
