Biography

Saint Atto of Tordino, also known as Attone, was a Benedictine monk and the first Abbot of Tordino Abbey near Teramo, Italy. He lived during the 11th century and made significant contributions to the Church as an exemplary religious leader. Atto was born in the 10th century, but specific details about his early life and family background are scarce. He felt a calling to religious life and joined the Benedictine order, which was known for its strong commitment to prayer, study, and manual labor. In the year 1004, Atto became the first Abbot of Tordino Abbey, which was founded near Teramo. As an abbot, he was responsible for the spiritual and administrative guidance of the monastery. Atto embraced his role with utmost devotion and dedication, inspiring his fellow monks through his ascetic lifestyle and unwavering commitment to the Benedictine way of life. Saint Atto's reputation as a saintly man quickly spread throughout the region due to the virtues he displayed in his communal and personal life.
