Biography

Saint Basilissa of Rome, also known as Vasilissa, was born into the Imperial Roman nobility during the first century. She was recognized as a devout follower of the Christian faith and is known to have received her spiritual education under the guidance of two prominent figures in early Christianity, Saint Peter the Apostle and Saint Paul the Apostle. During her time as their student, Saint Basilissa demonstrated unwavering faith and dedication to the teachings of Christ. She became known for her commitment to serving the community and assisting the less fortunate. One notable act of service was when she personally participated in the burial of the bodies of Saint Peter and Saint Paul after their martyrdom in Rome. Unfortunately, Saint Basilissa's strong religious beliefs and association with the Apostles made her a target for persecution during the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero. In the early 60s AD, Nero began a brutal campaign against Christians, blaming them for the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD.
