Saint Candida the Elder, also known as Candida of Naples, was an elderly woman in Naples, Italy, who is revered for her remarkable encounter with Saint Peter the Apostle. Born in Naples during the first century, Candida led a humble and virtuous life as she grew older. One day, Candida fell severely ill, and her condition rapidly deteriorated. Aware of her desperate state, Candida fervently prayed for divine intervention and restoration of her health. In a miraculous turn of events, her prayers were answered when Saint Peter appeared to her. Touched by her faith and devotion, Saint Peter laid his hands on Candida, healing her completely. Overwhelmed by this miraculous intervention, Candida experienced a deep spiritual transformation. She chose to convert to Christianity and was subsequently baptized by Saint Peter himself.
Inspired by her own conversion, Candida became an ardent disciple of Saint Peter, committed to spreading the teachings of Christianity. Her zeal was most evident in the influence she had on the life of Saint Aspren of Naples.
