Saint Emily De Rodat, also known as Marie Guillemette Emilie de Rodat, was born on 6 September 1787 at Chateau Druelles, Rodez, Aveyron, France. Raised by her grandmother, she received a well-rounded education at Maison Sain-Cyr in Villefranche, France. At the age of 18, she entered the teaching profession and became a teacher at Maison Sain-Cyr. Emily De Rodat was initially drawn to religious life and joined three different religious orders. However, she did not find complete satisfaction in any of them. Thus, she embarked on a path of self-discovery to discern her true calling. In 1815, she began tutoring poor children in her spare time, demonstrating her deep compassion for those in need. Over time, this endeavor grew, and in 1816, she founded a free school with three assistants and 40 students. This initiative served as the foundation of a teaching institute that would later become the Religious Congregation of the Holy Family of Villefranche. Saint Emily De Rodat's exceptional devotion to education attracted like-minded individuals who shared her passion. This congregation would go on to establish 38 institutions aimed at providing education and caring for those in unfortunate circumstances. The Religious Congregation of the Holy Family of Villefranche, under Saint Emily De Rodat's guidance, extended its mission beyond education. They began to offer support and assistance to women in dire situations, including orphans, prisoners, retired religious individuals, and the elderly in general. Saint Emily De Rodat's tireless efforts towards the betterment of society touched the lives of countless individuals. Her dedication, alongside the compassionate work of her congregation, brought comfort and hope to those who needed it most. Saint Emily De Rodat passed away on 19 September 1852 in Villefranche, Aveyron, France, after a battle with cancer. Her legacy endured, and her selfless life of service was recognized by the Catholic Church. Pope Leo XIII declared her venerable on 19 May 1901, acknowledging her heroic virtue. Later, on 9 June 1940, Pope Pius XII beatified her, elevating her to the rank of blessed. Finally, on 23 April 1950, Pope Pius XII canonized Saint Emily De Rodat, declaring her a saint of the Catholic Church. Although Saint Emily De Rodat does not have a specific patronage associated with her, her life and work continue to inspire individuals across the globe.
