Born in an unknown location, his early life was marked by devastating loss when Norse raiders captured him and murdered his family, forcing him into slavery in the Orkney Islands. Through divine providence, he escaped to Scotland and embarked on a pilgrimage to Rome, Italy, seeking both solace and spiritual direction. There
