Biography

Saint Galactorio of Lescar, also known as Galactorio of Béarn, Galattorio, Galactoire, or Galactorius, was a sixth-century bishop of Lescar in the French Pyrenees. He participated in the Council of Agde, a significant ecclesiastical gathering during his time, and ultimately met a martyr's death at the hands of invading Arian Visigoths, led by Alaric. Not much is known about Saint Galactorio's early life and background, but historical records place him as the bishop of Lescar during the sixth century. Lescar was a small city located in the Béarn region of the French Pyrenees, where Galactorio shepherded the Christian community and guided the faithful through turbulent times. One notable event in Saint Galactorio's life was his participation in the Council of Agde. This council, held in 506 AD, was a gathering of bishops from different regions to address important matters of faith and discipline within the Church. Refusing to renounce his faith or compromise his beliefs, Saint Galactorio steadfastly defended Catholic orthodoxy and remained faithful to his duties as a bishop. This steadfastness and refusal to yield to the pressures of the Arian Visigoths ultimately led to his martyrdom. Saint Galactorio was put to death by the invading forces, dying a martyr's death for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith.
