Biography

The crimson of martyrdom stained the soil of Vietnam as the ultimate witness to a life consecrated to the Gospel. Jacinto Castañeda Puchasóns, a priest of the Order of Preachers, answered a divine summons that carried him from the Iberian Peninsula to the farthest reaches of the East. His story is one of radical departure, leaving the known world of Spain to embrace the dangers of missionary work in Asia during a time of intense religious tension. This sacrifice marks him as a definitive figure in the history of the Church’s evangelization efforts in the Orient.
