Biography

Saint Leo the Deacon, also known as Leo diaconus or Leo of Catania, was a sub-deacon and martyr in the early Christian Church. Unfortunately, not much information about his life has survived, making it challenging to create a comprehensive biography. We know that Saint Leo the Deacon served as a sub-deacon, a position of minor clergy within the Church. As a sub-deacon, he would have assisted the deacon during liturgical services and other religious ceremonies. Saint Leo the Deacon met a tragic fate when he became a martyr for his faith. The circumstances leading to his martyrdom are unclear due to the lack of surviving historical records. However, it is believed that he endured persecution and possibly faced execution for refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs.
