Saint Mac Nissi, also known as Mac Nesi, Mac Nessi, or Macnessius, was a revered Catholic monk and Abbot of Clonmacnoise monastery in County Offaly, Ireland. He was born around the year 574 and served as the abbot from approximately 574 to 590. Little is known about Mac Nissi's early years and family background, as historical records are scarce from this period. However, his prominence and impact as a religious leader during his time at Clonmacnoise are well-documented. Clonmacnoise, situated on the banks of the River Shannon, was one of the most renowned monastic settlements in early medieval Ireland. It served as a center of religious and scholarly activity, attracting numerous students and scholars, making it an influential hub of spiritual and intellectual growth in the region.
