Biography

Saint Marcus of Campania, also known as Mark, was a prominent figure in the early Christian Church. He was a priest in North Africa during a time when the region was under the control of the Arian Vandals, a tribe that held heretical beliefs denying the divinity of Jesus Christ. As a devout Catholic priest, Marcus vehemently opposed the Arian teachings. His unwavering commitment to the orthodox Christian faith made him a target of persecution by the Vandals. He was subjected to brutal torture and eventually exiled from his homeland. In a cruel act of punishment, Marcus was placed aboard a boat without a rudder and cast out to sea by the Arian Vandals. The intention was to leave him stranded and helpless, destined to face a certain death in the vastness of the ocean.
