Saint Maria Josefa Sancho De Guerra, also known as Maria Josefa of the Heart of Jesus and Maria Giuseppina del Cuore di Gesù, was a dedicated nun and a prominent figure in the Catholic Church. She was born on September 7, 1842, in Vitoria, in the Basque Country region of Spain. At the tender age of 18, Maria Josefa joined the Institute of the Servants of Mary and took on the name Maria Josefa of the Heart of Mary. She had a strong desire to serve God and care for those in need, which led her to devote herself completely to religious life. In 1871, Maria Josefa played a crucial role in the foundation of the Institute of the Servants of Jesus in Bilbao, Spain. This religious order focused on caring for children, the sick, the elderly, and the abandoned, both in hospitals and in their own homes. Under her guidance and tireless efforts, the Institute grew rapidly. By the time of her death, it had established 43 houses and had 1,000 sisters dedicated to providing compassionate care to the marginalized.
