Marie Victoire Couderc entered religious life and joined the Sisters of Saint Regis. Her deep spirituality and dedication to helping others quickly became apparent, leading to her appointment as the novice mistress and later the house superior in La Louvesc, France. Alongside Father Stephen Terme, Marie Victoire Couderc founded the Congregation of Our Lady of the Retreat in the Cenacle in 1826. The congregation initially began as a mountain hostel for women pilgrims, but it soon expanded its ministry to include conducting spiritual retreats. These retreats provided individuals with the opportunity to deepen their faith, seek spiritual guidance, and engage in prayer and contemplation. Despite her remarkable accomplishments, Sister Marie, as she was commonly known, remained humble and dedicated herself to a life of prayer and service. In 1838, she resigned as the superior of her congregation, choosing to live the remainder of her years as a humble sister. Her selflessness and devotion earned her the admiration and respect of many. Saint Marie Victoire Therese Couderc lived a life of deep faith, embodying the virtues of humility, simplicity, and love. She died on September 26, 1885, in Lyon, Rhône, France, from natural causes. Her holy and exemplary life led to her veneration by Pope Pius XI on May 12, 1935, when he declared her heroic in virtue. She was further recognized for her holiness when she was beatified on November 4, 1951, by Pope Pius XII and canonized on May 10, 1970, by Pope Paul VI.
