Biography

Saint Maximus of Evreux was the brother of Saint Victorinus of Evreux. Sent by Pope Damasus I as a missionary to Gaul, Maximus labored to bring the light of the Gospel to the pagan peoples of that region. His zealous preaching and evangelization drew both converts and opponents, and he ultimately gave his life for the faith, dying as a martyr. Together with his brother Victorinus, he is remembered among the courageous missionaries who helped establish the Church in what is now France during the fourth century.
