Biography
Saint Melitina was a Christian woman who lived during the persecutions under Emperor Antoninus Pius. Arrested by the governor Antiochus, she was taken into pagan temples on two separate occasions and commanded to offer sacrifices to idols. On each occasion, by the power of her faith and the grace of God, the idols toppled over at her presence, a miraculous sign that further enraged her captors. When her persecutors could not compel her to worship their gods, they subjected her to torture and finally executed her. Saint Melitina is venerated as a martyr who demonstrated extraordinary courage and trust in God, whose power manifested visibly in the overthrow of false idols.
