Death: February 11, 1937
Saint Pedro De Jesús Maldonadolucero, also known as Pedro de Jesus Maldonado Lucero, was born on 15 June 1892 in Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico. He grew up in a deeply religious family and developed a strong devotion to his Catholic faith from a young age. Recognizing his calling to serve God and the Church, Pedro entered the priesthood and was ordained a parish priest in Santa Isabel, within the archdiocese of Chihuahua. During the anti-Catholic persecutions of the Mexican Revolution, which lasted from 1910 to 1920, the Mexican government enacted severe measures against the Catholic Church, including the closing of churches, expulsion of clergy, and persecution of faithful Catholics. In the face of these challenges, Saint Pedro remained steadfast in his commitment to his flock and continued to celebrate Mass and administer the sacraments in secret, risking his own safety to provide spiritual guidance and comfort to his parishioners. Sadly, Saint Pedro's dedication to his faith and people eventually led to his martyrdom. On 11 February 1937, in Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, he was beaten and shot in the forehead by anti-Catholic forces who sought to eradicate the Church and its influence in Mexico. The day before his death, Saint Pedro had courageously celebrated Mass, fully aware of the dangers that awaited him. His sacrifice exemplified his unwavering commitment to his faith and the Church. Saint Pedro De Jesús Maldonadolucero was officially recognized as a martyr of the Mexican Revolution. His beatification took place on 22 November 1992, and he was subsequently canonized on 21 May 2000, both ceremonial events led by Pope John Paul II. The Pope acknowledged Saint Pedro's martyrdom as a profound witness to the power of faith and the resilience of the Catholic Church in the face of adversity. Although there is limited information available regarding the specific representation and patronage associated with Saint Pedro, his life serves as an inspiration for all those who face challenges to their faith and the defense of religious freedom. His feast days are observed on 11 February and 21 May, the latter being a shared commemoration with the other Martyrs of the Mexican Revolution. Saint Pedro De Jesús Maldonadolucero's courageous witness continues to inspire Catholics around the world, particularly those facing persecution or hardships in their practice of the Catholic faith. Through his intercessions and example, Saint Pedro exemplifies the virtues of steadfastness, courage, and love for God, providing a shining example for all believers.
