He is recognized as a martyr for his faith during the Boxer Rebellion. Born around the year 1837 in Chentuncun, Jiaohe, Hebei, China, Petrus Li Quanhui lived in a period of great turbulence and religious persecution in his homeland. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained steadfast in his devotion to the Catholic faith. Petrus Li Quanhui was married and had a family, which emphasized his commitment to his vocation as a layman. He sought to live out his faith in the context of his domestic responsibilities, actively participating in the Catholic community and sharing the teachings of the Church with his loved ones. During the Boxer Rebellion, a violent anti-foreign and anti-Christian movement that swept across China at the turn of the 20th century, Petrus Li Quanhui faced immense persecution for his faith.
