Biography
Saint Platonides of Ashkelon, a devoted deaconess of the early Church, dedicated her life to ecclesial service and the spiritual nurture of others. Though the precise date and place of her birth remain unknown, her vocation took root in the vibrant Christian communities of the Eastern Roman Empire. She is particularly renowned for establishing a convent at Nisibis in Mesopotamia, a significant center of monastic life and piety during a period of growing Christian influence and challenge. This foundation reflected her commitment to fostering a community dedicated to prayer, charity, and the preservation of faith.
Her steadfast witness ultimately led to martyrdom. Saint Platonides was executed alongside two unidentified companions, their shared sacrifice
