Biography

Saint Rachildis of Saintgall, also known as Richildis, was a Benedictine anchoress who lived a life of solitude and prayer walled up in a cell near Saint Wiborada, under obedience to the abbot of Saint Gall in Switzerland. She is highly revered for her dedication to a life of contemplation and her unwavering commitment to her faith. Unfortunately, not much is known about Saint Rachildis' early life or her family background. However, her devotion and love for God led her to dedicate her entire life to Him in a secluded existence. She chose to live as an anchoress, a choice that was not uncommon for devout individuals seeking to deepen their connection with God during the medieval period. As an anchoress, Saint Rachildis resided within a small, enclosed cell, often located near a church or monastery.
