Biography

Saint Stanislas Kazimierczyk, also known as Louis Scholtis, Louis Soltys, Stanislas Kazimierz, and Stanislaw Kazimierczyk, was born on September 27, 1433, in Kazimierz, Lubelskie, Poland, to Maciej and Jadwiga Soltys. Raised in a pious family, he received a good education in the faith. Stanislas demonstrated exceptional intellectual abilities from a young age and went on to receive doctorates in theology and philosophy from Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. Deeply inspired by his love of God and his desire to serve others, he decided to enter the Canons Regular of the Lateran in 1456. Taking the name Stanislas Kazimierczyk, he dedicated his life to the Eucharist and to the care of the sick and the poor. During his time as a priest, Stanislas became renowned for his exceptional preaching skills and his ability to connect with people as a popular confessor. His sermons were filled with profound wisdom and spiritual insights, drawing many people closer to God. Stanislas also became known as a trusted advisor and friend, particularly to Saint John of Kanty. Stanislas held various responsibilities within his religious community, including serving as a prior and novice master at his monastery. He also served as a professor of philosophy and theology, sharing his knowledge and guiding students in their intellectual and spiritual development. Despite his numerous accomplishments and the admiration of those who knew him, Stanislas saw himself as a constant struggler in his pursuit of holiness. He remained humble and dedicated to deepening his relationship with God throughout his entire life. Saint Stanislas Kazimierczyk passed away on May 3, 1489, in Kazimierz, Lubelskie, Poland, of natural causes. He was interred in the church of Corpus Domini in Kazimierz. Soon after his passing, popular devotion to Father Stanislas emerged, with people considering him a living saint. By the 1500s, he was referred to as Blessed. The formal introduction of his Cause for canonization began in 1971. On December 21, 1992, Pope John Paul II confirmed his heroic virtues and declared him venerable. On April 18, 1993, Pope John Paul II beatified Stanislas Kazimierczyk. Finally, on October 17, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI canonized him as a Catholic saint, acknowledging his holiness and the impact he had on the Church and the faithful. Although Saint Stanislas Kazimierczyk does not have a specific patronage assigned to him, his life and example continue to inspire many to lead lives of deep faith, selflessness, and devotion to the Eucharist.
