Biography

Saint Syra of Troyes, also known as Syria of Troyes, was a 7th-century Catholic saint and the sister of Saint Fiacre. Born in Ireland, she led a life deeply rooted in piety and devotion to God. When her brother Fiacre fled Ireland in search of solitude, Syra felt a strong calling to follow him and share in his pursuit of a contemplative life. She journeyed to Troyes, a city in France, and settled there as an anchoress. As an anchoress, Syra chose a life of solitude, prayer, and penance, living in a small cell attached or adjacent to a church, dedicated to a life of deep spiritual contemplation. In Troyes, Syra dedicated herself to a life of deep prayer and discipline, seeking to unite herself more closely with God.
