Born in the 5th century, Tammarus dedicated his life to serving God and his people with unwavering faith and devotion. During his time as a priest, Tammarus found himself at odds with the Arian Vandals, a sect known for their heretical beliefs regarding the nature of Christ. Tammarus staunchly defended orthodox Catholic teachings and refused to compromise his convictions, even in the face of persecution. Due to his unwavering commitment, Tammarus was subjected to severe torture by the Arian Vandals. However, this did not break his spirit, as he remained resolute in his defense of Catholicism and continued to spread the Gospel despite the constant threat to his life.
In an attempt to silence Tammarus, the Arian Vandals decided to exile him by sending him out to sea on a boat without a rudder. They hoped that he would die at the mercy of the unpredictable waters. To their surprise, the vessel miraculously landed in the Campania region of southern Italy, specifically in the towns of Grumo Nevano, San Tammaro, and Villa Literno. Undeterred by his exile, Tammarus saw this as a divine intervention and an opportunity to continue his ministry with the people of Campania. He dedicated himself to the spiritual well-being of the locals, touching their lives with his profound love for God and his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith.
